Work with us •

We are hiring.

We’re on the hunt for a Sauna Host to join our small, growing team.

We’re looking for safe pairs of hands to work with us part-time on a self-employed basis to host and manage the Watershed Sauna at Findhorn Beach.

The Role

We are looking to recruit someone locally to work on a part-time, self-employed basis to help manage the Watershed Sauna at Findhorn Beach. The job will initially be for one or a combination of days between Thursdays-Sundays, with the potential to expand to more days, subject to demand. We are particularly keen to hear from folks who would be happy to work the weekends.

This is quite a niche role. It’s physical, requires early starts, long hours outdoors, working on weekends, and dealing with lots of people, whatever the weather. Between firing up, hosting the sessions themselves, and closing down; a standard sauna working day is between 8-12 hours of work depending on the time of year. It won’t be a job that suits everyone.

On the other hand, you will also be based in the extraordinary location of the wild and beautiful Findhorn Beach, meet lovely people, and be actively contributing towards creating meaningful experiences which help to increase people’s wellbeing and sense of connection to the natural world.

If you like the sound of what you read here, and you fit the bill set out below – we’d love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening up, preparing the sauna, and lighting the stove at the start of the day (often very early morning)

  • Chopping firewood, transporting it along with heavy water canisters

  • Tending the stove to ensure the sauna comes up to temperature efficiently, and is maintained throughout each session

  • Welcoming customers for their pre-booked sauna sessions and providing a short health & safety briefing for each session

  • Keeping an eye out for customers in case they have any needs, making sure they are sticking to the sauna guidance, popping into the sauna to offer steam

  • Managing changeovers between groups; making sure people vacate in a timely manner

  • Stoking the stove, refilling the various water buckets, and cleaning the sauna between sessions

  • Keeping the sauna area tidy and orderly; ensuring other beach walkers have clear access

  • Fielding messages from customers who are running late or need directions

  • Answering questions from interested passers-by about what the sauna is and how they can book

  • Cleaning down and closing the sauna up securely at the end of the day

Skills & Qualities required

Necessary:

  • Based locally

  • Drivers license and own vehicle

  • Ability to work weekends, flexible hours and long days, including evenings

  • Ability to work independently

  • Punctual, reliable, responsive

  • Team player; easy and friendly to collaborate with

  • Excellent communication skills and manner, good awareness of people’s needs

  • Acute attention to detail, tidy and organised

  • Willingness to work long days outdoors in all weather

  • Physical ability to scrub sauna benches, chop wood and carry water

  • Comfortable managing a hot wood-burning stove and sauna environment

  • An interest in sauna culture, wellbeing, and nature connection

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Vehicle with a tow bar and ability to drive (and reverse!) with a large trailer

  • First aid and/or open water lifeguard qualifications

  • Know how to handle an axe for prepping kindling

  • Knowledge about the benefits of sauna

Perks

As for perks, the obvious one here is that you’ll get to enjoy a complimentary weekly sauna to yourself at the end of the working day. You’ll also receive a personal discount code to use for sauna bookings with your family and friends, and we will provide you with the appropriate workwear for staying warm and dry whilst working outside.

To apply please send your CV to info@watershedsauna.com with a cover note explaining what you feel you could bring to the role, as well as a reference if you have one available.

Thank you for your consideration.

About us

The Watershed Sauna is a side project of Living Alive – a micro sustainability consultancy and partnership between Elle Adams and Rupert Hutchinson.

Over the last year since its launch, we’ve found the Watershed Sauna offers us a really tangible way to create social impact close to home, alongside our other consultancy work. The sauna not only supports local people’s health and wellbeing and social connection, but also serves as a tool to help nurture peoples’ sense of interconnection with the natural world. (You can read more about the impact of the sauna so far over on this page which shares our findings and testimonials from the Winter Wellbeing programme.)

Some of the Watershed sauna team!

Now, we’re excited to have the opportunity to apply our purpose-driven business values towards offering unique, flexible and fairly paid, and (we hope!) inspiring jobs within our local rural community. We looking forward to receiving your application.
